Ode to My Bed

By Markesia Bailey

As soon as I enter you I sail off to a sea of dreams
Warmer than a mother's hug to a new born baby
On a below-freezing Missouri night you loan me your jacket
I clothe you and unclothe you as if you were my child
Dressed in a white and grey fitted tank top with a matching pull over
I still put on your peach, turquoise, grey, white, and teal jacket
No jeans that's why I always see your brown wooden legs
You are my hiding spot in the game of hide and seek that I play with reality
Once I'm found I put my checkers piece back on the board and make a queen
Jumping over life's opposing pieces until I jump back into your arms
I sink into you like quick sand and the more I try to get out the harder it is
On stormy nights you hold me as I gaze out the window
Monday through Friday I abandon you when I least want to
I try to run back to you, but time always kidnap me before I get a chance
I'll be walking like a zombie with my eyes lower and tighter than a marijuana smoker until we meet again
