Publishing in India by Hope Craighead

Janus Editors

I looked into how different countries go about publishing and printing, and it was immediately clear India is a country to watch.

India and China are competitors when it comes to publishing and a lot of big companies choose China's printing method over India because of how much more Indian printing method costs to do "four color printing" (Contributor). Even though China is ahead of them now, they are working hard to “become one of the major producers and manufacturers of printed products to the world,” says Khera (Contributor). They are trying to expand their facilities into new places to bring in more business. India is also different compared to other global publishing because they focus on the total cost rather than just how much it would cost to print it. The government has now invested a lot of money into the printing facilities, so they can make more educational books and make them accessible to everyone. I think that it is cool for them to do that for such a good cause. That is a big reason why their publishing has had a big boom of success in recent years, helping the “dissemination of scientific research” (India). They are trying their best to do things to make themselves unique compared to other print companies, but that is not easy in this market even as they are making good strides toward their goal. “The value of the print industry across India was over 225 billion Indian rupees in 2021,” (Basuroy). This is 2,736,110,250.00 in US dollars, and they expect that to go up by 2024. Their printing companies give jobs to 1.2 million people. While they are still struggling with “copyright and piracy issues," the India publishing companies seem on track to great success (India).
