The American Staple Is Wal-Mart
By Dean Moran
The American staple is Walmart.
The weigh stations so proudly scale.
I love America and its slightly superstores.
I love my solitary listening to the radio,
Warning me of the perils of online dating.
The American Icon is Dylan crying
anonymously in a theatre,
set in the make-it
Great Depression.
poet laureate of the century,
putting his greatest Spanish-leather boot
forward into the new twenties.
Infinite emo-rap is the new twenties,
Infinite 90’s—Infinite 60’s
Infinite Police, Gogos, Smiths.
The American family are the Jones’,
waiting for normal,
praying and making their donations.
enamored by the mystery of faith;
the miniature bobble head holy spiritual on their dash,
milking their coffee and doing what they have to do to feel better.
The American occupation is the Sex worker,
endlessly adapting with time.
The American Shame is on the dime
the war-crime and the Anglo-Saxon myth
of superior blood and race.
The American Ghost is an infinite outrage.
The American romance is PocaHauntUs and Smith, and coming to terms with the magnitudes in rape of terrain and ethnocide.
The American Phantasy is the rape fantasy. The unapologetic commodification of your heart and justification of the giving the people the ‘it’,
they asked for.
Reflections of flirtation and the harrowing pursuits,
with the American broken heart beating
in pieces along the highway,
looking like a kitten named midnight
struck down immediately
upon learning the meaning of freedom,
Or the many black and brown bodies brought down by the institutions that refuse to rethink the Anglo-Saxon tradition.
The American singularity is upon us and is techno-culture colonial-ized.
Those revered Aryans whose tone is not rightly known continue on westward to a sky burnt beautifully in colors—which when smeared,
shake our shame ideation to the self
the three types
of tears will choke us,
and then we will understand we suffocated on
cries repressed to represent national pride
in persevering through the limits of the human
condition.
